What is the CPSU?

CPSU (PSU Group) is one of the most active and innovative trade unions in Australia.

CPSU (PSU Group) membership is open to employees in a wide range of industries including the public sector, telecommunications, call centres, employment services, commercial broadcasting, the aviation industry and science and research.

CPSU's members include people doing work in the areas of administration, sales, engineering, communications, information technology, technical, scientific research, broadcasting, and many others.

CPSU is a federal union with representation in every state and territory. The predominant area of coverage for the PSU group is in Commonwealth government departments, statutory authorities, business enterprises and the ACT and NT governments. PSU Group also has coverage in some community and private sector areas.For information about State Public Service unions, contact the State Public Service Federation (SPSF)

CPSU members receive information, support, advice and representation on issues that affect working life, including, pay and conditions, negotiating awards and agreements, protecting jobs and rights, encouraging workplace democracy and promoting a fair, safe and flexible workplace.CPSU members also have access to training and a wide range of special services and products.

The PSU Group has around 60,000 members. The other part of the CPSU, the State Public Service Federation (SPSF) Group, covers members in State government and related employment, and has around 100,000 members.The combined membership of the PSU and SPSF groups makes CPSU one of the largest trade unions in Australia. CPSU is at the forefront in defending the public sector and the essential services it provides to the community.
