WorkChoices alive at ABS, Razor gang to be blunted? Help shape CPSU agenda for change, Workplace wrap, Members win Queen's Birthday honours, new union fees for 08-09, exciting book give-away comp and more...

1) WorkChoices alive and well at the ABS? In a case that will test the Rudd Government's credibility as a decent employer, the CPSU has launched Federal Court action against the Australian Bureau of Statistics for threatening union delegates for distributing legitimate union material. Read more from The Age here and a CPSU bulletin here

2) Focus on the efficiency dividend: The CPSU's high profile public campaign against arbitrary Budget cuts has caught the attention of some within the Rudd Government with a Parliamentary committee set to investigate the impact of the efficiency dividend on small agencies. Read more and have your say here.

3) The Big Picture: With the general community focusing on solutions to big issues such as climate change and work/life balance, it's time for CPSU members to develop our own agenda for change. What should our long-term goals and aspirations be? Find out more and get involved here

4) Workplace wrap:  All the latest campaigning and bargaining news at a glance, including AQIS, Telstra, Centrelink, Medicare, CSIRO, DVA and more. Find out more here.

5) CPSU members win honours:
On the recent Queen's birthday long weekend a number of CPSU members received the Public Service Medal (PSM) for the quality of their work. Read more here

6) Kevin's 24/7 culture a career turn-off?
Are extreme workloads and unfriendly hours driving women away from careers in the Public Service? Read more and have your say here. You can also watch an ABC Stateline video report featuring the CPSU here.

7) What is Stress Down 24/7? Concerned about workplace stress but not sure what you can do? Stress Down 24/7 may be the answer. On 24 July 2008 (24/7) the good folk at Lifeline are asking workers to organise stress-reducing fun at work and raise money for a vital charity at the same time. Stress Down 24/7 is a brilliant initiative and the CPSU strongly encourages everyone to get involved. To find out more go to

8) CPSU fees for 08-09: CPSU fees are adjusted automatically each July based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Click here to find out more.

9) We are 100, not out! This week CPSUnews hits a milestone - our 100th issue! Our first issue went out in June 2004 when the hot news was Treasurer Peter Costello's shameful boast that axing 17,000 public service jobs was the "best thing that ever happened to Canberra." Plus ça change! Follow the link to tell us what you think about CPSUnews

10) Book giveaway competition: The Forgotten Garden:  A lost child. A terrible secret. A mysterious inheritance. The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton - author of the international bestseller The Shifting Fog - is another addictive and compulsively readable mystery. Thanks to our good friends at Allen and Unwin we have ten copies of this captivating and atmospheric novel to share with CPSU members. To be in the running to win a copy of The Forgotten Garden email cpsunews@cpsu.org.au and tell us the name of the best book you have read this year.
