Significant outcome in NTPS bargaining

17 March 2008, 8:33am

Following the count of votes at the NT Electoral Commission, employees have voted in favour of the new union collective agreement - 3573 in favour, 537 against.

Well done!
Thank you to everyone who joined the union, attended CPSU meetings and participated in activities. Your important contributions helped secure a deal better than the Government’s initial offer.

What happens next?
The new agreement will now be lodged with the Workplace Authority. Upon receipt by the Workplace Authority, the agreement becomes operational and the process of back pay can begin. The OCPE has indicated this will occur on 20 March for normal pay and the following paydays for penalties.

At a glance
The three year deal delivers NTPS workers an 11% pay increase, with no loss of conditions. The effective date of the first 4% instalment is 9 August 2007, with two additional instalments of 4% and 3% payable in August 2008 and August 2009 respectively. Other main features of the proposed agreement are:
  • increases to applicable allowance rates
  • improved work/life balance initiatives including the introduction of paid paternity/supporting partner leave
  • improved employment incentives for professional employees
  • a comprehensive agreement containing former award entitlements and conditions
  • the Australian Industrial Relations Commission can settle disputes over the application of the agreement.
Want to maintain your rights at work in the NTPS?
Union members in the NTPS have won a decent outcome for all employees. This result is the direct outcome of the time, interest, support and membership fees given by those NTPS staff who are CPSU members. To them we say… thank you, without your membership, the pay and conditions of NTPS staff would be of a much lesser standard.

To NTPS staff who are not yet union members, it’s time to do the right thing. You can join online securely, quickly and easily today at https://web.cpsu.org.au/join or by calling 1300 137 636.
