Union family bereavement benefit

Timely financial support for the immediate family of any financial CPSU member who passes away while still on active duty.

The benefit consists of a payment of $1,000 to the immediate family for the purpose of assisting with expenses. It applies to bereavements that occur on or after 1 October 2009. Payment will be by cheque or electronic fund transfer, depending on family preference.

The UFBB applies to:

  • financial CPSU members who die while employed in a CPSU area of coverage
  • CPSU members who have been awarded life membership by Governing Council
  • CPSU members who die while on extended sick leave.

The UFBB does not apply to:

  • deceased former members who left the CPSU due to resignation, retirement, cancellation or redundancy
  • unfinancial members
  • associate members.

Who to contact about the UFBB when a member has died

  1. Your first contact should be the CPSU workplace delegate
  2. If that's not possible, contact the Director of the Member Service Centre on 1300 137 636 or email charlie.thomas@cpsu.org.au
