News studio automation: management dragging feet
A letter co-signed by over 70 members was forwarded to management last week.
The letter calls on management to genuinely engage with affected staff about the
automation project. Management says it cannot answer our questions until October
when they will have completed the testing and evaluation of the system. We want
information about job security, work flows and whether the new system will be
capable of handling breaking major stories.

News Studio roles…rates of Pay
A meeting was held with management two weeks ago to discuss the
classification and employment arrangements of Multi-Skilled Operators(MSOs) /
Studio Directors. Management undertook to provide a draft in the next two
weeks…but they also promised to do that last year. We are calling on management
to recognise and reward the higher levels of skills and complexity associated
with the new studio work practices.
Enterprise Bargaining: what do you want in the next round?
The current ABC Agreement expires on 1 April 2009, only 7 months away. We
will shortly be distributing a survey to find out what changes you want in your
agreement. If you want to help on the campaign as workplace representative or as
a distributor,

HSMA
The CPSU, in consultation with the Health and Safety reps (HSRs) has prepared
a draft Health and Safety Arrangement (HSMA) for the ABC. The document replaces
the OHS Agreement that is being phased out under changes in the OHS legislation.
The union draft calls for the introduction of a national OHS committee, improved
training and clearer recognition of the rights and responsibilities of the HSRs.

Regional workloads: go online and tell us what you think
Members in regional radio stations have informed CPSU that their jobs are
getting more demanding. Jobs in local radio now include a higher level of web
based production. The problem is that management has not adjusted workloads;
they have simply heaped on extra work and have failed to support staff by
providing the comprehensive training that is required to support the change. If
you work in the regions, and haven’t yet completed the survey, please jump on
line now.
