ANSTO Bargaining claim

24 June 2008, 12:58pm

A few questions and answers...

What pay increase are we asking for?

5% per annum. The latest national inflation figures come to 4.2%. Also petrol prices are increasing, alongside interest rates etc. 5% per year is a reasonable and realistic claim to take to management.

What else is in the claim?

Protection and improvement of our existing conditions of employment by including policy into the agreement. This includes improved access to training and development, consultation and representative rights and strong dispute settlement procedures.

What is ‘work/life balance’?

Work/life balance includes:

  • clearer provisions on access to flex, personal leave and other leave entitlements,
  • improved family friendly provisions, including to maternity and adoption leave,
  • expressing those provisions as entitlements, and
  • measures to support a healthier lifestyle and support community volunteering.

What other issues have people raised for inclusion in the claim?

  • Opportunities for career progression within the classification system
  • Green initiatives and better access to public transport
  • Permanent employment and job security

OK – so how do we get this stuff?

A united workforce represented by their union will get the best outcome in a difficult negotiation. That means people need to join their union so your bargainers can speak with the strongest representative voice at the negotiating table. The first step is to join your union today!
