We need your experience!

17 June 2008, 11:36am

Negotiations for the next SBS collective agreement will have begun and CPSU is looking for union members who would like to become more involved in the campaign for better pay and conditions. One of the most effective ways to participate is by forming a Campaign Volunteers Committee at your worksite.

What is a Campaign Volunteer Committee member expected to do?

  • Distribute campaign material and gather feedback from your co-workers

  • Provide a link between CPSU representatives and members

  • Talk to your workmates about or workplace issues and union membership

  • Encourage colleagues to attend union meetings

  • Help your local organiser to arrange workplace activities

Am I expected to be in the negotiation room?

No. Your elected CPSU delegates will be in the negotiation room along with representatives from the union. Your role is to assist with campaign.

When does the committee meet?

Generally speaking, a Campaign Volunteers Committee meets after each negotiation. We discuss the outcomes of the negotiations so far and work out the next steps for the campaign in the workplace. Committee meetings usually go for an hour and are held over lunch time. CSPU would especially like to encourage members who are women, or from culturally diverse backgrounds to participate.

When is the first meeting?

Tuesday 24th June in Conference Room A from 12 to 1pm

Does SBS management approve of the Campaign Volunteer Committee?

Yes. CPSU has a positive and constructive relationship with SBS management. They recognise your right to form this committee and have agreed to allow reasonable time to participate.

If you are nterested, please contact Paul.
