Who we cover

The CPSU's members include people doing work in the areas of administration, sales, engineering, communications, information technology, technical, scientific research, broadcasting, and many others. The CPSU is a federal union and the predominant area of coverage for the PSU group is in Commonwealth government departments and agencies, statutory authorities, government business enterprises and the ACT and NT governments. The PSU Group also has coverage in some community and private sector areas.

Our mission

The CPSU is at the forefront in defending the public sector and the essential services it provides to the community such as the ABC, CSIRO and Medicare.

Information, services and support

CPSU members receive information, support, advice and representation on issues that affect their work lives, including pay and conditions, negotiating awards and agreements, protecting jobs and rights, encouraging workplace democracy and promoting a fair, safe and flexible workplace. CPSU members also have access to training and a wide range of special services and products. The PSU Group has around 50,000 members. The other part of the CPSU, the SPSF (State Public Service Federation) Group, covers members in State government and related employment, and has around 100,000 members. The combined membership of the PSU and SPSF groups makes CPSU one of the largest trade unions in Australia.
